Dear Journal:

In the beginning of the semester I had no idea what will this class teach us. I had doubts about its purpose and whether it would be beneficial. However, having completed the class, I can confidently say that it has significantly improved my writing skills and provided me with valuable knowledge that will benefit me in my future engineering career.

One of the key aspects of this course is that the assignments are not just meaningless essays or questions. Instead, they are designed to simulate the real-world writing tasks you will encounter as a professional engineer. By working on these assignments, you will gain practical experience and learn how to effectively communicate in various contexts relevant to the field of engineering.Throughout the semester, I found that each assignment contributed to my growth as a writer and helped me achieve the eight course learning outcomes. The memo assignment, for instance, focused on understanding and adapting to different audiences. The technical description assignment emphasized the importance of purpose, teaching me how to inform and effectively convey my ideas to the intended audience. The engineering proposal assignments taught me how to conduct research, work with group members, and cite them in my own work. The valuable feedback from both peers and the professor, I was able to refine my skills and meet the course objectives.

Understanding the audience is a crucial element in effective writing. Identifying the main demographic of the audience, whether it’s professional or casual, and considering their level of expertise on the subject matter helps determine the appropriate level of detail and approach. This class taught me to always simply your audience as much as possible so you can target the writing style specific to that audience. This class also taught me the habit of always revising and rewriting material and never submit first draft because it’s not perfect. I have learn to become more patience because a lot of the time I had to resubmit works and I kept doing the hard work.

In conclusion, this course has provided me with valuable skills and knowledge that have greatly enhanced my writing abilities and prepared me for the demands of a professional engineering career. If we embrace the assignments and opportunities for growth, and I am confident that everyone will find this class worthwhile and rewarding.
